What is SEBS and what are its characteristics

What is SEBS? In terms of professional knowledge, SEBS is a kind of material. SEBS has excellent aging resistance, plasticity and high elasticity, can be directly used without vulcanization, and waste materials can be reused. SEBS is widely used in the production of elastomer modification, plastic modification, adhesive, lubricating oil thickening agent, wire and cable filling material, sheath material, etc.
SEBS is a linear triblock copolymer with polystyrene as the terminal block and ethylene-butylene copolymer obtained by hydrogenation of polybutadiene as the intermediate elastic block. SEBS does not contain unsaturated and double bonds, so SEBS has good weather resistance, heat resistance, compressive deformation and excellent mechanical properties.
The above mentioned the application field of elastomer modification. SEBS is usually blended with rubber oil, resin, filler, compatilizer and other functional additives for modification and granulation. The modified product is called TPE or TPR. Various rubber products can be made by injection molding, extrusion and blow molding. SEBS and SBS are different in product structure and processing temperature. In terms of processing temperature, SBS processing temperature is generally between 150~200℃, while SEBS is generally between 190~260℃.
What kind of material is SEBS? Generally speaking, SEBS has good temperature resistance. Its brittle temperature is less than or equal to-60℃, its maximum service temperature reaches 149℃, and its decomposition temperature is greater than 270℃ in oxygen atmosphere. Excellent anti-aging performance, its performance decline rate is less than 10% after aging in an artificial accelerated aging box for one week, and its performance decline is less than 10% after ozone aging (38℃) for 100 hours. Excellent electrical properties with a dielectric constant of 1.3*10-4 at 1 kHz and 2.3 * 10-4 at 1 MHz; Volume resistance is 9 * 1016 Ω/cm per minute; 2*1017Ω/cm in 2 minutes. Good solubility, blending performance and excellent oil-filling property, can be dissolved in many common solvents, and its solubility parameter is between 7.2 and 9.6, and can be blended with various polymers.
The original shape of SEBS polymer used is powder. Domestic SEBS manufacturers include Yueyang Petrochemical, Ningbo Keyuan, Huizhou Li Changrong, Nantong Taixiang and Zhejiang Zhongli. Foreign SBS manufacturers include US Koten, Japan Kolali and Taiwan Oak.
